Low speed anemometer, model N5967, made by Keuffel & Esser Company, New York, no date, circa 1920-1925.
Metal and glass, 6" diameter x 1-7/8" deep. Stands 6-1/4" high with brass plate for mounting; fold-down ring handle at top.
With: mahogany wood case, hinged lid with clasps, 6-7/8" wide x 7-1/4" deep x 2-3/4" high; printed paper label inside lid with model number and printed manufacturer's name, and blank table; a number, 11682, typed at top next to model number; table is filled in with typewritten instrument readings and corrections which also have holographic "plus" or "minus" marks next to them.
Not listed in the 35th edition catalog of 1915, but it is listed as N5967 in an April 1921 price list for this edition. It appears in later catalogs without the 'N' prefix (K&E usually used it to denote a new product) up to the late 1950s. The product number is not found on the item. Dial is marked "Keuffel & Esser Co., New York."
Note the brass stand or mounting plate has a number stamped on it: 28911. The label had a typed number, 11682, next to the model number. Which is the serial number for this item has not been determined.
The instrument has ten vanes on a rotor connected to a dial (black markings on silver.) Dial reads from zero to 1000 feet by 1 foot intervals. Dial is marked "Keuffel & Esser Co., New York"; it has beveled edge glass. The guage body and support struts have a black cloth finish. The rim is a smooth black finish with polished brass face. At the top edge near the ring handle is a lever ("disconnector") connected to the guage for starting and stopping reading. Back of the guage has an adjustment screw.
Per the 37th edition catalogue description: "This instrument was developed for measuring air currents at the registers of heating and ventilating systems, in schools, public buildings, etc."
Keuffel & Esser Co. main office and factories were in Hoboken in the period when this item was made.
