Collections Item Detail
Anemometer made by the Keuffel & Esser Co., N.Y. (factories in Hoboken, N.J.) N.d ca.1900-1930.
Object/Artifact
Anemometer (adapted with special extension) with main parts by the Keuffel & Esser Co., New York (factories in Hoboken, N.J.) No date, circa 1900-1930. Brass, painted metal and glass. Circa 11" long x 4" high. Also known as a portable air meter.
This device as seen here was not a stock item that has been found listed or shown in a K&E catalog. It was either specially made by the company for a client or adapted from a stock model after purchase by a user. The main componenent is a K&E Model number 5950Z or 5952Z anemometer with zero setting arrangement (which would have been manufactured in Hoboken; no stock or serial number is found on the exterior) as listed in the 35 edition (1915-1921) of the K&E catalog. The vane rotor was removed from the original (it would have been mounted in the black disk perpendicular to the guage) and has been mounted on an 8" long three-legged extension. The added materials used, attachment methods and their painted finish are not the same as the stock item and do not appear to be a Keuffel & Esser factory quality finish.
