Helmet: Civil Defense or Air Raid Warden. No date, circa 1941-1944. Metal with matte white painted finish; adjustable web strap fitted interior. Both stamped on underside of from rim: U.S. Govt. Property | O.C.D. [Office of Civilian Defense]. Two each.
Helmet 1: tan webbing interior with imprinting on one piece: U.S. Gov't. Property | Civilian Defense.
Helmet 2: gray webbing, no marking on webbing as helmet 1.
The Office of Civilian Defense operated during the World War II period from ca. May 1941 (prior to the U.S. entry into the war) to its official closing on June 30, 1945 (but it effectively ended in late 1944.)
