He was father of donor Ben Fernandez, Jr. Fernandez senior worked at the shipyard from 1941 to 1983, his last position was that of riggers crane operator. His son also worked at the same site. The gray fiberglass helmet has the name "J.B. Fernandez" painted in white block letters above the front brim. Applied number decals, "65", are on each side of the helmet. The number is the employee's department number.
