Object/Artifact
Transparent Luxylite parabolas, set of 8, product number 1862C, made by Keuffel & Esser Co., New York and Hoboken, no date, circa 1956-1962. Transparent plastic, varying sizes: all are 4" wide and range from 5-5/8" high x 1-1/4" high. With: original two piece cardboard box with printed label; original plastic storage sleeve with 8 pockets; printed inspection label inserted in one pocket, "Inspected by No. 14."
Curves used by draftsmen, engineers and designers.
K&E did list this set in its 42 edition catalog of 1954, but as made of "Xylonite" which was their trade name for another type of plastic which had a slight color cast. Apparently the product was changed to "Luxylite" (another tradename they used for a clear plastic) after the 1954 catalog and since product numbers changed by circa 1962, the date of this item is estimated at 1956-1962.
