Letter from Rose Guinan to John Ryan, May 20, 1920. With reply and envelope, no return address. Single note-size sheet folded to 4 pages with holographic letter on 3 pages to John Ryan of 608 Newark St. Her text sequence is pp. [1],[4], [2].
Written from School No. 4 in Hoboken where Guinan worked as a teacher, she appeals to Ryan for a loan of $200. She mentions that he may remember her from the [Admiral] Benson Club where she once worked. She states she has "been caring for her sister's [possibly Mary H. Miller later Mary H. Markey] two orphan children [probably Florence and Madeline Miller] for eight years trying to educate them and do for them on my salary they are almost at the point where they can look out for themselves, but if I fail now my years of work are lost."
Ryan rejects her plea. He replies on page [3] that he has bought a house att Woodcliff and "I am under heavy expenses in my new shop in Hoboken that will take care of what ready money I have."
