Can: Lipton's Yellow Label Brand Coffee. 1 pound container. Packed and distributed by Thomas J. Lipton, Inc., Hoboken, N.J.; San Francisco; Chicago. Copyright 1920. Lithographed metal with stamped twist-off lid or cap; 4" diameter x 6" high; bottom of container is unmarked. Original contents not present.
Printing is in yellow (gold) and red. Lid has painted finish with stamped lettering: Lipton's in fancy script at center; Delicious Coffees. Beneath these words is: To Open Turn [arrow with feathers]. See objects 2013.005.0021 for another can from this period with a different, unfinished lid - Steel Cut. It has the same, To Open Turn, with the same style arrow.
The can carries a copyright date of 1920 as seen in image 5. Image 3 has text "Can Patent Applied For."
Hoboken became the American headquarters and main factory for the company in 1919.
