No date, circa 1896-1914.
A sailor's hat band ribbon. Black silk embroidered with lettering and fleet insignia in gold, centered, plus an embroidered gold anchor at each end, 1-1/4" wide x 38" long.
Nordd. Lloyd = Norddeutscher Lloyd
(North German Lloyd Steamship (or S.S.) Company.; NDL or NGL; also known at one time as Bremen Line.)
D. Friedrich der Grosse = Dampfer Friedrich der Grosse
Dampfer = steamship
(S.S. Friedrich der Grosse was in fleet from 1896 until 1914.)

North German Lloyd had its American home port in Hoboken during this era and the Friedrich der Grosse routinely docked here.
