Letter from Edward Engelbart relating to August and Gesina Engelbart and family, once residents of Hoboken 2003. Donor's (grandson of the Engelbarts) two-page typewritten letter with a brief family background and description of related items being donated is this record. Other items are catalogued separately as listed below.
August Engelbart was a harbor master for the North German Lloyd Line in Hoboken including during the 1900 pier fire. Later he was an employee of Tietjen & Lang Dry Dock Company. He lived in Hoboken from 1896 to ca. 1912 when he and his wife moved to Union City. A native of Germany, he became a U.S. citizen in 1903. He was then living at 422 Bloomfield St.
