Letter from J. E[dgar]. Hoover, Director, FBI, to George R. Maier, 833 Bloomfield St., Hoboken, July 28, 1947 re acknowledgement of July 15th application for position of Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation and statement that Maier does not have requisite qualifications. Typed letterhead, signed "J E Hoover" (auto-pen.)
Enclosures: two copies, each dated differently, of a three-page printed document titled: Information Concerning the Special Agent Positions in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, United States Department of Justice.
Enclosure 1 dated March 20, 1947 has some text on page 2 under "Qualifications, 3(b)", crossed out with pencil.
Enclosure 2 is the same document dated July 5, 1947 with the text that was crossed out in enclosure 1 now deleted. All other text appears to be the same as the March 20th version.
These documents state general duties including listing of acts and laws for which the Bureau had primary jurisdiction. Also listed are the cities in which it had divisions. Entrance salary was $4525.80 per annum.
Maier was then a recently discharged Lieutenant from active duty in the U.S. Naval Reserves and was once based at the Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tennessee.
