Book: K&E Field Engineer's Book 361. Made by Keuffel & Esser Co., (New York.); used 1906. Tan full leather (sheepskin) binding with blind embossed title and stock number on front board; 60 un-numbered leaves. (Not marked, but it was probably made in Germany.) Used in field work with circa two thirds of the pages used. Worn binding; 4 leaves excised as detailed below. An example of a K&E product that was used for real work by a surveyor/engineer. Some selected leaves are imaged to provide examples of how it was typically used. Listed under K&E Engineer's Field Books. Catalogue states "with Keith's & Hall's Tables." Inside front cover: "Hall's Tables" - "Tables for Excavations and Embankments." These are copyright 1895 by K&E. Stated at bottom: "For Keith's Railroad Curve Tabels (sic) see end of book." There are the stubs for four leaves that have been cut out preceding the rear endleaf; these were apparently Keith's Tables. The printed table inside the back cover is a continuation of the one inside the front cover and is titled "Distances from Center of Roadway for Cross-Sectioning"; "Calulated by Julien A. Hall." This book has previous owner's ink stamp: "John E. Eagan, Engineer & Surveyor, Windsor Locks, Conn." Only the twelfth leaf has a date, April 5, 1906. Recorded field data and sketches in pencil. Apparently the survey work was related to street railway (trolley) clients. St. Ry. K&E had their main office and factories in Hoboken when this item was made.

Notes: [State of Connecticut] PUBLIC DOCUMENT No. 12, 1905 53D ANNUAL REPORT OF THE Railroad Commissioners...COMPILED FROM THE Annual Reports of the Steam Railroad Companies of.. the State for the Year Ending June 30, and of the Street Railway Companies for the Same Period Excerpt page 28-29: The Rockville, Broad Brook & East Windsor Street Railway has been constructed from Warehouse Point, through Broad Brook, as far as Melrose Station, to which point it is now being operated. The foregoing comprised the principal additions made to the street railways of the State during the year 1905. Since our last report the Consolidated Railway Company has acquired the Hartford Street Railway, the Suffield Street Railway, the Willimantic Traction Company, and the Hartford, Manchester & Rockville Tramway Company, together with large street railway properties beyond the limits of the State. As will be seen in the financial statement elsewhere made of the operations for the year, the business of the companies for the year covered by this report is greater than that of any previous year, (both as to the number of passengers carried and the gross earnings.
