Book: K&E Field [Engineer's; Earthworks] Book 380A. Made by Keuffel & Esser Co., (New York), n.d, ca 1920-1940. Dark tan imitation leather cloth binding, 5-1/4" x 8" x 9/16" thick, with blind embossed title and stock number on front board; sprinkled edges; 80 un-numbered printed form leaves followed by ten numbered pages of Keith's Railroad Curve Tables. Made in Germany (stated inside back cover.) No entries; unused.
Listed under "Engineer's Field Books" as "Earthworks book." Catalogue states "with Keith's & Hall's Tables." Inside front cover: "Hall's Tables" - "Tables for Excavations and Embankments." These are copyright 1895 by K&E. Stated at bottom: "For Keith's Railroad Curve Tabels (sic) see end of book." The printed table inside the back cover is a continuation of the one inside the front cover and is titled "Distances from Center of Roadway for Cross-Sectioning"; "Calculated by Julien A. Hall."
Keith's Tables, "Published by Keuffel & Esser Co., New York." have a 1902 copyright by Keuffel & Esser Co.
The book was not listed as 380A (the imitation cloth cover ) in a catalog until the 36th edition catalog of 1921, but it was listed in a 1920 price list for the 35th edition of 1915. The 380 was a sheepskin binding.
The typography of the column headings suggests the 1920s or earlier, as the the catalogue depictions of the columns from 1927 onward are in a more modern typeface.
K&E had their main office and factories in Hoboken when this item was made.
