Drawing of a bird's-eye view of the proposed John Schmalz's Sons, Inc., Model Bakery, Hoboken, no date, ca. 1898-99. Blank ink on cardstock with white ink highlights added. Name of artist or architect not identified.
27" wide by 20" high. Originally framed under glass (removed from frame which has been retained and is stored separately.)
The view is looking the southwest with Jersey City Heights in the background. The corner of the building is at the southwest corner of Clinton Street (left) and Eighth Street (right). The building was intended to cover the entire Eighth Street block to Grand Street and approximately half of the whole block going towards Seventh Street. The first part of this complex was built in 1899 and other portions were added up until February 1909 when most of it was destroyed in a fire. It was rebuilt in succeeding years. This newer structure still stands.
Attached for reference is an image of this drawing printed on the back cover of "Just A Minute," (archives catalog 2004.051.0003) an advertising booklet issued ca. 1900 by the company.
