Menu keepsake: Dinner honoring Adoph W. Keuffel on his 25th Anniversary at Keuffel & Esser Company, June 12, 1939. (Union Club, Hoboken.) Printed menu with photo, cardstock, 4-3/8" x 7" high. Reverse is blank.
Signed by Adoph W. Keuffel below his photo. It was also signed by four other men, three of them Keuffel family members: Carl W. Keuffel; W.G. Keuffel; and William(?) Keuffel [W.L.E. 'Willie' Keuffel?] plus Philip Ferber. While the year 1914 is present, his specific date for starting employment, June 10, 1914, is not.
The event was the typical banquet honoring long-time employees of 25 years or more. This ceremony inducted them into a company organization called the 'Old Guard' and for those celebrating 25 years there were 8 people in 1939. It also honored previously installed members.
Whether this souvenir keepsake was done for each new member of the Old Guard has not been established. See archives 2010.007.0246 for another example, Sam Wood, Jr., from 1938. The back of that item has the contemporary penciled note: Union Club, Hob. It is believed that the 1939 event also took place there.
