The centennial dinner was attended by several hundred people, some of whom were seated in groupings by years. The Union Club was at 600 Hudson St. Stands holding cards marked '1936-1943' can be seen on tables near the bottom center (apparently some other tables had such cards for other years; one is seen off the table and on the floor) where one man holds up a 1934 yearbook, 'The Sentry', and another, a 1933 edition. On the wall to the right is a Stevens Academy banner. Although caption states it was 'Stevens Academy Banquet,' the school, a private prep school at Fifth St. and Willow Avenue, was actually named Stevens Hoboken Academy. It was formed by the merger in 1934 of the Hoboken Academy with the Stevens High or Stevens Preparatory School. The first year of combined operation was 1935. The 1860 date was the year Hoboken Academy alone was established; the founding of Stevens was later. (Stevens Hoboken Academy closed in 1970.) Presumably some of the attendees were alumnus of either one school or the merged school depending on when they were students.The group seen is likely a mix of the alumni plus current or former faculty along with the usual dignataries such as officers and trustees.
