Includes extensive history of the race and the yachts including references to John Cox Stevens of Hoboken, first Commodore of the N.Y.Y.C. which was founded in Hoboken. He was leading member of the syndicate that built the yacht "America" that won the cup in the first race in 1851. This group of men made a gift of the cup in 1857 to the New York Yacht Club with a Deed of Gift that still remains the document that sets the rules (much amended) for this international challenge race.
