Notes: Gustavus W. Pach (1845 or 1848-1904) was a New York and New Jersey shore photographer. He started as a photographer about 1867. He operated at the 858 Broadway address from ca. 1871 to the mid-1870s (he is stated as having settled at 841 Broadway in 1877 after a some intermediate moves - addresses not stated; New-York Historical Society collection description used as an authority.) By 1880 he was in the same business with his brothers as Gustavus Pach & Bros. Pach is known to have done a number of stereo views. Photographers in the latter half of the nineteenth century often took views of New York from the New Jersey side of the Hudson River, but one that solely portrays a Hoboken scene in this era is uncommon. This stereoscopic view here is presumably part of a series as titled, but other ones are not listed in common sources at present.
