Holographic entries and red seal with corporation emboss. Printed by H.D. Gerdts, Printer, 27 Park Place, N.Y. The Association was incorporated March 29, 1885 as presented by the corporate seal. It held its first races on August 18, 1885. This certificate was for a capital stock increase to $425,000 as filed on June 27, 1890. The President who issued the stock was a Hoboken notable, Lawrence Fagan, a foundry owner and who served as Mayor of Hoboken, 1894-1901. The signatures of the treasurer (John N. ______) and receiver are not legible. Stock owner William Keuffel was a Hoboken resident and involved in the Keuffel & Esser Company which had its main factory in Hoboken. It is believed that he was W.G. Keuffel also known as Willy although this is not definite - there were three Keuffel men in this era who used William as their first name. He received only $16.71 in 1899 from the receiver (stated as Jersey City, presumably the County Court) for his one hundred dollar investment. The history of the racetrack is not well established. This race course for trotting was variously described in three The New York Times articles from 1885 as located "nearly midway between West Hoboken and Weehawken" and "above Weehawken". See notes. It did apparently have its offices in Hoboken as an 1888 telephone directory has it listed as Hoboken 137 in the Jersey City exchange.
