New Midtown Tunnel Opened ---
New York .... A general scene at the New York side of the the new Lincoln Tunnel, as U.S. Army trucks rumbled through the completed engineering project, shortly after Governors Herbert H. Lehman of New York, and Harold Hoffman of New Jersey, had declared it officially opened. This tunnel and its mate [north tube], running from New Jersey to New York, will have cost $74,800,000 when completed. The tubes are 75 feet under the surface of the Hudson River. The New York-New Jersey tube connects Mid-Manhattan with Weehawken, New Jersey. The second tube will be completed in 1941.
