Text at top of image:
NXP1916593 - 11/12/77 - NEW YORK: A bust of Clifford M. Holland stands at the New York entrance to the tunnel that bears his name. The Holland Tunnel is still very much the way it used to be when it opened 50 years ago toady, 11/12, but the traffic has the modern look in this 11/11 photo. The Port Authority, which operates the tunnel, will commemorate the 50th anniversary 11/12 by placing a plaque under the bust of Holland, who was the chief engineer of the project. The methods of construction of the tunnel still form the basis for building underwater vehicular tunnels all over the world.
