Archive
Ticket sample: Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad monthly commutation ticket between Maplewood and New York, for March 1947. Form MC. Orange card stock, printed in black and red, two sides, 2-1/2" x 5-5/8" wide; three conductor's punches; inkstamped sample on reverse as noted below.
A two piece ticket with the right part being the monthly ticket.
This ticket was also valid for passage between New York and Montclair or Little Falls.
Tickets to or from New York required taking the railroad's ferry to or from Hoboken where the Lackawanna Terminal was located. The ferry fare was included in price of fares to or from New York. This is covered in the terms and conditions on the back. Inkstamp on back: Sample Jan 4 1947 Rand McNally & Co.
See archives 2011.005.0090 for another sample dated 1944 with the typical stamp. Note also that the 1944 example is a three piece ticket as opposed to the two piece ticket here. The third piece was detached for the first ride, but on the 1947 example here, the conductor punched the sex of the rider (box at top right corner) and that covered the first ride.
