NXP75-11/12 - New York: An employe [sic - employee] who has worked for the Immigration Services for 30 years, waves goodbye to Ellis Island as the last ferry pulls out. The tiny island in N.Y. Harbor which for 62 years has been the vestibule for the "tired, the poor, the huddled masses" of the world is deserted 11/12 except for the sea gulls. The Immigration Services has closed Ellis Island, familiar first stopping place for millions of immigrants. UNITED PRESS TELEPHOTO.
