Sept. 22, 1898 The Honorable Mayor & Council of the City of Hoboken The undersigned, residents and property owners on Bloomfield Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets, respectfully call the attention of your honorable body to the existence of two Carpenter advertisement signs of the proportions as described on sketch below and situate on the premises No. 624 Bloomfield Street, between Sixth and Seventh Streets, in said block. Your petitioners contend that the existence of these signs, (one of which Is grotesquely ornamented with shutter, door and window trim models) in this otherwise private residential block, depreciates the value of their real estate both as regrds the sale and the rental of same: and further, inasmuch as we understand it is the intention of the owner, Bertha Schwarze of the premises above mentioned, to petition yout honorable body for permission to maintain the signs on her property, WE, the undersigned, most vigorously protest against the granting of such permission for reasons as above stated: and your petitioners further pray your honorable body to take measures to abolish this - unsightly encumbrance which we hold to be a menace to our property rights, and we earnestly hope this petition will meet the approval of your honorable body. ==== [page 3] Owner and Occupant Name Address " Mrs. A.
