Object/Artifact
Sign chart of Fire Alarm Stations, Department of Public Safety, City of Hoboken, no date, ca. 1939-1947.
The date of 1939-1947 was established from Michael F. Kearins who is listed at the bottom as the Director of Public Safety. He was been dated in that post in at least 1942, possibly earlier, as he had been serving as Director of Streets from 1930 under Mayor McFeely. The chart includes a fire station for Maxwell Coffee Mill which was the Maxwell House Coffee plant that opened in 1939. In 1947, city elections brought new directors to office. Although this information helps to determine the general dates it probably originated, it is quite possible that it was in use beyond the 1947 date.
Chart was from the Hoboken Fire Department headquarters once located at the southwest corner of Second and Hudson Streets (now called 1 Firehouse Plaza). The building was demolished circa 1970.
