Stereocard: Anthony's Stereoscopic Views. No. 5978. Looking across the Hudson, Jersey city and Hoboken in the distance; (Winter Scene.)
Published by E. & H.T. Anthony & Co., American and Foreign Stereoscopic Emporium, 501 Broadway, New-York. No date, circa 1865-1872. (The 501 Broadway address on the card here is known from 1862 to about 1871 or 1872.)
3-7/16" high x 6-7/8" wide. Yellow paper over board front and back; front has no imprinting; back has printed white paper label, 1-1/2" x 5-7/8" wide.
View is west from New York with Hoboken across the river to the far right and Jersey City at the center and left on the west bank of the Hudson. Details are not discernible of any New Jersey elements.
A detail scan shows a New York wharf with a partial view of the signage - "Cromwell Ste" - the Cromwell Steamship Company (or Line) at Pier 9, foot of Rector Street. They were also using pier 10 in this era. This view strongly suggests that Rector Street is in the street leading to the river and that the photograph was taken from Trinity Church.
