Orange life preserver vest / jacket from the Hudson River ferry boat "Elmira" on its last run. Hoboken, November, 1967.
Adult size, Model No. 31. Sewn orange cloth with natural webbing ties; cork bricks sewn in pockets. Stenciled with size, manufacturer (Atlantic - Pacific Mfg. Co., Brooklyn, N.Y.), specifications, Coast Guard approval, etc. and 12 inspection ink stamps from various dates, 1950's and 1960's, not all are legible, but it appears that this item was on the vessel from ca. 1951. Circa 54" wide.
The donor stated he was passenger on that last ferry run, November 22, 1967, when the passengers were allowed to take the preservers as a memento.
