Scope and ContentTrade card/ticket: Trip Accident Insurance, The Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn.; distributed or sold by Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad, Stroudsburg, PA, 1911-1914. While not from Hoboken, these items would be typical examples for a service offered at Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken (the eastern terminus for its long distance trains). Two of the four different examples here were apparently sold as they carry validation stamps by the railroad ticketing office in Stroudsburg. While all cards or tickets show insured values for various types of losses (i.e., death, loss of one or more limbs, etc.), all carry the notice: "Insures females in event of death only." 1: two cards, 2" x 4" wide, reverse unprinted; code 5567, date 4-3 '11 [April 3, 1911] 2: 2" x 4" wide, reverse unprinted; code 5567, date 5-28 '13 [May 28, 1913]; reverse has validation stamp: D.L. & W. R.R. Stroudsburg, PA Apr 7 1914. 3: 3" x 4-1/2" wide, printed both sides; code 5611; date 1-30-'14 [Jan. 30, 1914]. 4: 2-3/8" x 4" wide; reverse unprinted; code 5615; date 7-16-'14 [July 15, 1914]; reverse has validation stamp: D.L. & W. R.R. Stroudsburg, PA Oct. 25 1914. 5: "This Envelope contains an Accident Insurance Ticket Issued by The Travelers Insurance Company of Hartford, Conn." Paper envelope, 3" x 5-1/2" wide, printed both sides. Orginal contents not present; stained and damaged. No date, but before July 1915. (Items 1 to 4 were not associated with the envelope, but item 3, is the approximate size that may have been used with it; note that the 10-day rate on the envelope back was $2.00 which would place it before item 4 - date July 1914 - which has a $1.50 ten-day rate.)
