DescriptionFixed head t-square, model 8815, 18", made by Keuffel & Esser Co., New York & Hoboken, no date, circa 1940-1945?. Pearwood, 18" long (19-3/4" overall) with 8" wide head; head secured to blade with 5 brass screws. Blind stamped on top circa 6" from head: K & E Star Quality [around star logo], 8815, 18. This model number has not been found in catalogues or price lists. It is speculated that it was a temporary number used during World War II for a product that was a substitute for regular products due to wartime materials and production restrictions. A typical plain model used in drafting and drawing table work. This example shows use by a Herbert Rehmus who has marked his name twice by scratching on the head and at the tail of the blade. On the back of the blade are several penciled words including "Publicity Club" which indicates it was probably used in a junior or senior high school, possibly for publication layout or paste-up. K&E had their main office and factories in Hoboken at the time this product was produced.
