Object/Artifact
S.F. & C.; Fisher's Solitop Chocolates. Made by S. Fisher & Co., Hoboken, no date, circa 1900-1915. Two piece box with printed paper covered lid, 6-3/4" wide x 10" deep x 2-7/8" high. There is not a listed quantity or weight for the original contents none of which remain.
"Solitop" is stated as Registered U.S. Patent Office. The word is likely to be a contraction of "solid top."
Top end of box is the only place where Hoboken is found: "Guaranteed and Manufactured by S. Fisher & Co., Inc., Hoboken, N.J., U.S.A."
Company founded in 1895. Principals included Sol Fisher, Asher C. Fisher, Louis A. Fisher, Zachara Shapiro. Produced wholesale products under brand "S.F.& C." Located at Clinton, 11th and Grand Streets; street address from a 1926 directory: 1039 Clinton St.
While undated, the typography for "Solitop" and the border frame are in an Art Nouveau style and suggests that the box was issued nearer 1900 than later.
