Keuffel & Esser Co., Hoboken, N.J. employee photo identification badge of Arthur E. Miller of Hoboken, no date, circa 1940-1950. Brass oval with engraved lettering in black, 2" high x 1-7/16" wide; pin clasp back; window with black-and-white photo (circa 7/8" wide x 1-1/2" high) of Miller taken at height board with employee number in image below (3772); clear plastic insert over photo. Leather badge holder.
K&E did significant work in Hoboken for the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy which probably required a formal photo identification for security purposes within the manufacturing complex.
Arthur Miller (1914-1984) was also known as Edwin Arthur Miller and was to this time a lifelong resident of Hoboken. Lived at 1114 Hudson St. He is six feet, two inches high in the photo and appears about 30-35 years old.
The badge frame and back (with transfer to the leather holder ) has an green, waxy substance of unknown composition, possibly a polishing or lubrication compound. It is heavily caked on the back.
