The dinner was presumably a testimonial honoring a religious leader or notable clergyman in Hoboken as determined from a detail of a program standing on the head table which shows a head portrait of a man with a clerical collar; at least three men at the head table appear to wear clerical dress. John J. Grogan appears to the man seated at the head table who is third from the bottom at the left, only the back of his head is seen.
