The view is looking northwest from below the elevated or 'L' trestle. The foreground street is probably First Street with the large building in the background on Paterson Plank Road.
The trolleys or streetcars that used this line on the south end of Hoboken ran to and from a terminal at Hudson Place next to the Lackawanna Terminal. They also had connections to street level routes in Hoboken.
