Address book belonging to Mrs. Alex [Amelia] Craig, 409 Washington St., Hoboken, 1942-1944.
Semi-limp brown leather book, 2-1/2" wide x 4" high, with tabbed printed address leaves.
A good example of domestic life during the Second World War. She started the book in 1942 to record the addresses of her family members in the U.S. Army during World War II. It has a number of addresses as they moved to different posts, most undated, but two are dated 1944. Also some other servicemen's addresses are found.
She did use the book in the usual way to keep some addresses of other family members and friends, but many page spreads went unused or only had fragmentary notes or lists. Notable, too, is a spread devoted to recording the numbers of the wartime sugar ration book for the each family member.
At the back she kept her handwritten schedule of bingo nights at churches and 1 fraternal society; of the six listed, three are in Hoboken, 2 in Jersey City and one in New York City. Only Saturday night did not have listed venue.
The image caption numbers refer to spreads of two pages and are not consecutive as not all material was considered relevant or the pages were unused.
