Photograph
Black-and-white aerial photo of S.S. Rotterdam and S.S. Nieuw [New] Amsterdam being shifted in Hudson River by Moran tugboats near Fifth Street Pier of Holland America Line, Hoboken, n.d., ca. Sept. 1959-1961.
Digital image only. Original: real photo postcard, 3-1/2" x 5-3/8" wide; divided back; unused and unposted. Photographer not indicated, but credited on back: "Photo from Moran"
View is east of these two ocean liners being maneuvered by tugs near the American home port of Holland America (until 1961). River end of the Hoboken pier is seen at the lower left corner. The New Amsterdam is at the bottom. The Rotterdam arrived in Hoboken on its maiden voyage Sept. 11, 1959, but photo is not its arrival on that maiden voyage. A photo of that arrival showed it was a sunny day and it had aft pennants on display which are not present here.
