Caption in image: (NY29) NEW YORK, JAN.25 - WHERE RIVER FLOODED TUNNEL UNDER CONSTRUCTION - Diagram shows where waters of the Hudson River broke through approach tunnel on Manhattan side of new third tube being built 85 feet under the bed of the river for the Lincoln tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey. When water broke through workers tried to close steel safety door connecting the approach tunnel with the land tunnel to Dyer Avenue but found it jammed. The new 100 million dollar tunnel for vehicular traffic is being built from the New Jersey side toward Manhattan and it has been pushed 1,500 feet to a point even with the river bank. Work shaft and tunnel being built through rock from Manhattan side was the one which was flooded. Late today, the steel safety door was successfully closed.
