Better Than Walking.
Port Authority officer demonstrates self-propelled catwalk car, intended to hasten traffic supervision and bottleneck relief, near Manhattan end of the Lincoln Tunnel in New York Aug. 25. Demonstration was held in 2,200 - foot section of the 8,000 foot tunnel, which connects New York City with New Jersey. Vehicle is driven by an eight horsepower gasoline engine. Car is supported by single rubber-tired wheel and aided by stabilizing wheels on track underneath. At present, Port Authority officers patrol the catwalk on foot.

(NY25) New York, Aug. 25 - TUNNEL PATROL TAKES TO WHEELS - Port Authority policeman rides self-propelled catwalk car near Manhattan end of Lincoln Tunnel connecting New York and New Jersey during demonstration today. Car is powered by eight horsepower gasoline engine and is supported by a single rubber-tired wheel and aided by stabilizing smaller wheels on track alongside wall.
