Carriage or automobile lamp, Union Driving Lamp, kerosene or oil, ca. 1907-1920. Manufactured by Dietz, New York, Patented approved Jan. 26, 1897, Jan. 2, 1905, Sept. 25, 1906, Jan. 22, 1907, N.Y. Relief lettering on back of lantern.
Iron or steel sheet metal and copper with glass lense. Lamp, rolled and stamped metal, 11-1/4" high x 7" wide x 6" deep. Concave lense in hinged copper frame 5-1/4" diameter.
Black painted finish, rusty, except for the unpainted copper frame.
Wire loop handle on top for carrying or handing. Spring clip hanger on the back. Adjustable side mounting bracket with thumbscrew for clamping to a round metal rail or other bracket. This bracket is removable and can be mounted on either side of the lamp. On this lamp it is on the left when looking at it from the front.

Some rust areas especially at top of lamp where heat would apply to metal and paint.
