View is southeast from an elevated view in Jersey City Heights apparently near the intersection of Bower Street and Ogden Avenue. It shows the southwestern part of Hoboken where this is still marshland not yet filled in an area bounded by Third - Fourth Streets and Jackson - Harrison Streets? Drainage and fill has yet to be done is a smaller area in the next block south of the main pond seen. Detail 1: left - the steel skeletal structure of the clock tower for the new Lackawanna Terminal is seen, which would date this photograph as no earlier than the end of 1905, but more likely 1906. Detail 2: center left - painted fence or building signs in Hoboken, probably on Third Street: Frank Cordt's Furniture, cor. Washington & 2nd, Hob'n; Cordts & Katencamp, 218 First St. cor. Park Ave. Both retail businesses were in Hoboken and were related. Cordts & Katencamp signage offers more detail about them: oil cloth, carpets, stoves, furniture.
