DescriptionCast iron coal chute or drain cover with raised lettering on top "Mansfield & Fagan Hoboken" with square hobnail relief in a concentric pattern. No date, circa 1890-1920. Probably made late 19th century and used from 1890-1920. Iron, 20" diameter, slightly domed top with three 1-1/8" high prongs on bottom; also center flange on bottom with closed chain link attached to it (probably to avoid theft or loss of cover.) Location where originally located is not available. This local foundry had other names over time. The "Fagan" in the name was Lawrence Fagan who served 1894-1901 as a mayor of Hoboken.
