DescriptionCast iron coal chute or drain cover with raised lettering on top "Mansfield & Scudder Hoboken" in a concentric design with raised arabesque decoration. No date, circa 1880-1900. Probably made late 19th century and used from 1890-1940. Iron, 17-3/4" diameter, slightly domed top with three 1-1/2" high prongs on bottom. Location where originally located is not available. The company was a local firm which had other names over time. See objects 2002.052.0002 for another cover with the same diameter and arabesque decoration, but without a foundry name.
