Notes: Archives 2012.004.0068 ==== [document 1] Mayor's Office Hoboken, N.J. Edward R. Stanton, Mayor Hoboken, N.J., Jan [sic - June]. 27, 1892 Gentlemen of the Council Herewith I forward, and commend to you favorable consideration, the enclosed communication from Dr. Bernard Clausen in reference to the Free Dispensary located on Willow Ave. The object of this institution is certainly a worthy one, and it is proper and right for the City authorities to foster and advance all good work of this nature. Appropriate action on the part of the Council would not be unwise, an order with a view to latitude being given the Overseer of the Poor and the Committee on Alms to arrange with the Dispensary for treatment of the City sick and suffering poor would meet public approval. Very Respectfully submitted Edw. R. Stanton, Mayor ==== [document 2] Dr Bernard Clausen, 324 Garden Street Hoboken, N.J. June 22, 1892 Hon. E.R. Stanton Mayor, City of Hoboken, N.J. Dear Sir: It may have been brought to your attention in previous occasions, that there is a Dispensary in our City, where Five (5) of our Physicians are endeavoring and have been trying to alleviate the suffering of the poor in our City. This institution is located on Willow Ave. between Newark and First Street and the staff consists of Dr. Atwell, Burchaus, Arlitz, Fletcher and myself. We charge the small sum of Fifteen Cents for advice and medicine which we furnish ourselves. Those unable to pay, we do not place under any obligation. Should you find opportunity to visit the Dispensary, you will find me present on Tuesday and Friday afternoon from 2 to 3 o'clock in the afternoon. Also should there be presented any cases to the Overseer of the Poor [text not available] attention of the Dispensary, in [text not available] be pleased to take care of it [text not available] Dispensary does not make any [text not available] in outside sick, this is in no way interfering with the duties of the City Physician. Trusting you will give this matter a little attention, I am Yours truly, Bernard Clausen, M.D. ==== [file title] Communication from Mayor Stanton enclosing a communication from B.
