View is northeast of the piers at the west side of Manhattan in the Greenwich Village and Chelsea neighborhoods (identified in related photos 2013.001.0014 as Pier 57.)

Photo 2 is a closer view in the same direction; darker smoke.
Christopher Street ferry was one of the ferry routes operated by the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad to and from Lackawanna Terminal in Hoboken. Known as the Lackawanna Ferry or Hoboken Ferry.
Pier 57 was a United States Lines Pier at 15th Street on the west side of Manhattan. The related photos, 2013.001.0014, were taken in Hoboken near Tenth St. and the Hudson River.
Photos also serve as an example of the vistas available to ferry passengers of that era.
